I swear Christmas was like three months ago? As much as I\u2019m no fan of January, I was bloody glad to see an end to the increasingly lengthy festivities. That and the fact I\u2019m very much looking forward to 2019 and some exciting new challenges it will bring for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/my-quirky-smithers-world\/\">Smithers<\/a>. There was some brief mention of this back in November, when excitement got the better of me, but for those not in the know, I\u2019m very pleased to inform you that Smithers is coming to the high street in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitlincolnshire.com\/destinations\/stamford\/\">Stamford<\/a>. Yes, my friends, after years of being a hermit and working all hours on building our beloved website, the time has come to finally open the doors to a brand spanking new retail shop in <a href=\"https:\/\/discover-rutland.co.uk\/listing\/stamford-tourist-information-centre\/\"><strong><em>Stamford<\/em><\/strong>, Lincolnshire<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2061 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/best-places-to-eat-stamford-lincolnshire-5-star-4-star-rating-300x165.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"165\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/best-places-to-eat-stamford-lincolnshire-5-star-4-star-rating-300x165.png 300w, https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/best-places-to-eat-stamford-lincolnshire-5-star-4-star-rating-768x422.png 768w, https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/best-places-to-eat-stamford-lincolnshire-5-star-4-star-rating.png 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Smithers Store<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The new premises are still very much a work in progress at the moment, but come Spring, when the world itself appears to come back to life, Smithers new baby will indeed be born! We\u2019ve been looking for the right premises for over a year now, and when we were invited to look at an old pub within the heart of the town (yes it was a pub I frequented, and occasionally thrown out of), we knew it was the perfect place. Despite some of my friend\u2019s plea\u2019s to let the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/pop-up-shop\/\">new premises<\/a> remain as a pub (sorry fellas), Smithers will definitely be residing in the new residence. As I mentioned, it\u2019s still early days but walls are being stripped, the decorators are in and I\u2019m starting to get excited about <a href=\"https:\/\/markets.businessinsider.com\/news\/stocks\/smithers-of-stamford-the-luxury-furniture-brand-redefining-home-decor-with-bespoke-craftsmanship-1033481283\">luxury furniture<\/a>! It doesn\u2019t take much to be fair.<\/p>\n<p>The premises are a great size for us to showcase a large range of the <strong>Smithers<\/strong> <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wikidata.org\/wiki\/Q14745\">furniture<\/a> <\/strong><\/span>and there will be a wide selection of gifts available too.We are currently working on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wikidata.org\/wiki\/Q179232\">interior, <\/a>as we are hoping to merchandise the place into \u2018room areas\u2019 in order to make the store even easier to shop from. The store will be a welcome addition to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\">Smithers<\/a>, and we\u2019re both massively excited about it. Since we closed the showroom at the current HQ, we\u2019ve had so many phone calls from customers asking to come and see stock, so it will make a nice change not to have to turn those people away now \u2013 especially those who travelled a long way without calling!<\/p>\n<h3>Stamford Town<\/h3>\n<p>Having recently spent plenty of time in the old pub whilst it\u2019s being renovated, its put me in mind of some of my nights out in the town. Don\u2019t worry, I won\u2019t go in to detail. Despite spending many years travelling and seeing the world, <strong>Stamford<\/strong> has been my lifelong stomping ground. I know this place like the back of my hand &#8211; it\u2019s a great little town, and alongside the new shop, there\u2019s plenty of reasons why you should definitely come and pay us a visit.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1331 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Places_to_Eat_in_Stamford-300x226.png\" alt=\"places_to_eat_in_stamford\" width=\"300\" height=\"226\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Places_to_Eat_in_Stamford-300x226.png 300w, https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Places_to_Eat_in_Stamford.png 321w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><strong>The George Hotel<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Burghley House<\/strong> always draws a big crowd, with the locals and tourists, yet it never feels overrun. Set in grounds that even I can\u2019t deny are quite beautiful, this stately home offers some great walks around the <a href=\"https:\/\/burghley.co.uk\/plan-your-visit\/the-gardens\" rel=\"nofollow\">Sculpture Gardens<\/a>, a lovely lunch in The Orangery and there is always a barrage of events to keep all ages entertained. <strong>Stamford<\/strong> is also famed for being the home of the ancient <strong>George Hotel<\/strong>. Dating back to as early as 947 A.D, this beautifully old hotel, once popular with royals and the infamous Daniel Lambert (rather large local fella), is packed to the rafters with nooks and crannies, charming character and a bloody good afternoon tea.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1332 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/the_george_of_stamford-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"the_george_of_stamford\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/the_george_of_stamford-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/the_george_of_stamford.jpg 550w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Stamford Pubs<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Stamford<\/strong> has always been renowned for its vast number of public houses \u2013 that and several churches, a ridiculous amount of <strong>estate agents<\/strong> and more charity shops than you can shake a stick at. You can add Vape retailers to that list too nowadays! Thankfully the pubs, bars and restaurants still provide an excellent night out, so if you\u2019re anything like me, listen up because here comes the important bit.<\/p>\n<h3><u>Paten &amp; Co<\/u><\/h3>\n<p>You\u2019ll find this fantastic three-storey bar right in the heart of town, on Red Lion Square\u2014yep, you guessed it\u2026 right next to a church. Paten &amp; Co has that genuine urban industrial vibe, thanks to its thoughtful restoration and bold <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/neon-light-bar-signs-lighting-the-history-and-the-evolution\/\">neon d\u00e9cor<\/a>. The craft beers and cocktails? Spot on. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/tableware\/french-brasserie-appetiser-bowls.html\">appetizers and tapa<\/a>s? Absolutely delicious.<\/p>\n<p>And if you\u2019re in Red Lion Square, make sure to pop into the little shop in the square and take a look at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/home\/world-clock.html\">old-worldly clock<\/a>. My parents owned that building for years, and I still remember my grandad taking the clock apart more than once. He was a master at clock restoration\u2014actually, a master at everything. God, I miss him! Patens is great for some drunken fun (after one too many glasses of Elderberry Fizz!), but equally suitable for a meal out with friends. I cannot do both anymore, and when the trauma of a hangover is a step too far, we head out for fodder.<\/p>\n<p>One of our favourite haunts is The Mad Turk. Run by Kaz, his wife Shelly and their team of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/gifts\/bbq-toolbox.html?ssa_query=bbq\">barbecuing<\/a> boys, the traditional meats cooked at this place are to die for. This lack of toleration also applies to pissed up imbeciles. Thankfully when I need a quiet drink involving decent beer and an insulting catch up with my mates, we head to the Tobie Norris.<\/p>\n<p>This <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/previous-collections\/ornate-long-copper-wall-mirror.html\">quirky<\/a> pub can be found at the top end of the town near the Boys School, in yet another astonishingly old building \u2013 the town is literally riddled with them. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/gifts\/vespa-wall-art.html\">pizzas<\/a> are great, as is the drinks menu. My only word of<a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/the-quirky-smithers-is-on-the-move\/\"> advice<\/a> is to attempt the stairs with great caution, especially after one too many. The building alone demands it.\u00a0Renovated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/wall-art\/lady-jumping-over-a-mouse-framed-art-poster.html\">within the walls<\/a> of the old Royal Mail Sorting Office, this iconic building is the perfect host for the Cosy Club\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/class-of-retro\/\">eclectic style<\/a>. The food is ok and the cocktails even better. There\u2019s always a really nice ambience in there and it\u2019s even suitable for the little people. What it lacks in size, it makes up for in good beer, great wines and fairy lights, the only drawback is, it could do with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/the-resurgence-of-neon-signs-in-modern-design\/\">few neon signs on the wall<\/a>, just saying.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1328 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/wine_bar_stamford-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"wine_bar_stamford\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/wine_bar_stamford-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/wine_bar_stamford.jpg 550w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><u>Cloisters Italian<\/u><\/h3>\n<p>The more we visit Italy, the fussier we get <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/seletti.html\">about Italian<\/a> food back here. However, this lovely little Italian is definitely worth a visit. Located on St Marys St \u2013 another street bedecked in history and independent retailers \u2013 the food is always great at Cloisters.<\/p>\n<p>The Ragu Di Manzo is a firm favourite, but I still challenge anyone to cook a better Carbonara than me!<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1329 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/cloisters_stamford-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"cloisters_stamford\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/cloisters_stamford-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/cloisters_stamford.jpg 550w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><u>The Copper Room<\/u><\/h3>\n<p>Great little bar on St. Mary\u2019s Hill opposite, yes that\u2019s right, another church! The Copper Room carries an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/reclaimed-wood-furniture\/factory-wood-apothecary-chest-of-drawers.html\">apothecary type style<\/a> and never fails to draw a crowd. They specialise in \u00a0craft beers, small batch spirits and wines, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/tableware\/cocktail-shaker-copper-and-cowhide.html\">cocktails<\/a> and a nice selection of antipasti nibbles. The family are originally from the Portuguese Island of Madeira. Manuel Pinto, the proprietor, learnt his craft in renowned places such as The Savoy hotel \u00a0before working in Jersey then Manchester and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityoflondon.gov.uk\/things-to-do\">London<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Today, his vast expertise lives on through his son, Nelio, who now runs the business. Rest assured <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/mid-lent-fair\/\">Stamford will provide you<\/a> with a pleasant daytime experience thanks to the array of independent shops, eateries and attractions and a decent night out!
