I don\u2019t know how to grow it, but I\u2019ll give it a shot to build my brand.<\/p>\n<h3>A SMALL FURNITURE BUSINESS ONLINE<\/h3>\n<p>I suppose a good starting point would be at the beginning, so let&#8217;s go with that. Having grown my Smith family to the desired 2.4 children and after several necessary house moves later, I sat in my newly obtained boys&#8217; room surrounded by furniture that looked as knackered as I felt! My immediate thought was that I needed new stuff.<\/p>\n<h3>VINTAGE STYLE FURNITURE<\/h3>\n<p>I trawled the Internet looking for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\">quirky retro furnitur<\/a>e and cool boys&#8217; toys that every <em><strong>man cave<\/strong><\/em> desired\u00a0but found nothing. Our latest house move was to an old farmhouse with bags of character and as many rooms as I&#8217;d had<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lambretta.co.uk\"> Lambrettas<\/a>, so it needed to fit the bill.<\/p>\n<h3>SOLID WOOD FURNITURE, NOT CRAP<\/h3>\n<p>I soon became bored with the endless suggestions of replica crap and mass-produced that that wouldn&#8217;t last five minutes with two adventurous kids and two boisterous dogs. I&#8217;ve always believed in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gq-magazine.co.uk\/gallery\/best-armchairs\">lifetime purchases<\/a> and getting what you pay for. I wanted solid stuff, vintage pieces with an eclectic twist.<\/p>\n<h3>MEN&#8217;S BOLT HOLES<\/h3>\n<p>I&#8217;m not exactly sure when the lightbulb moment occurred during my &#8216;<em>grumpy git can&#8217;t find what I&#8217;m looking for&#8217; rant<\/em>, but thank Christ, it did. If I couldn&#8217;t directly buy what I wanted, I could try to source it myself and sell it to fellow men looking to fill their beloved bolt holes with top-quality goods?, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/neon-signs.html\">real neon signs<\/a> <strong><em>the whole shebang,<\/em><\/strong> why stop at the fellas?! At that moment, I was convinced I could also get in touch with my feminine side, and if not, then there was always Mrs Smith to lend a hand.<\/p>\n<h3>THINK OF A BRAND BUSINESS NAME<\/h3>\n<p>Between setting up my home and running my <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.njsash.co.uk\">long-standing sash window company called njs sash windows<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0I searched for worldwide suppliers who provided <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/content\/bespoke-furniture\">handmade furniture<\/a> with a bit of a Cutting edge. I looked at several\u00a0manufacturers and visited small, intimate<a href=\"https:\/\/thefurnitureshows.com\"> furniture\u00a0trade shows<\/a>. Before long, we had a list of fabulous manufacturers to which we&#8217;d be happy to put our name. A name? We didn&#8217;t have one. \u00a0With a surname like ours and a nickname I&#8217;d held for years (along with a few others that aren&#8217;t for your ears!), it was only ever going to be Smithers, and with both of us being of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/places-to-eat-in-stamford\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">Stamford<\/a> origin &#8211; Smithers of Stamford was born. We run<a href=\"https:\/\/www.njsash.co.uk\"> the sash window company<\/a> as well as two companies are better than one right. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/portobello-road-market.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-190 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/portobello-road-market.jpg\" alt=\"man cave ideas\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/portobello-road-market.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/portobello-road-market-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>LOVE OF THE LAMBRETTA<\/h3>\n<p>I admit I have always had a distinctive style, thanks to a love of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/signs\/lambretta-motorscooter-neon-sign.html\">Lambrettas<\/a>, vintage toys, well-cut clothes, too many hats, and <strong><em>American house music<\/em><\/strong>, which I soon found embedded in my catalogue of Smithers goods.<\/p>\n<h3>OLD FARMHOUSE IN The UK<\/h3>\n<p>As luck would have it, our farmhouse outbuildings were big enough to convert to showrooms, so along with our all-singing, all-dancing website, we now had a super cool space to showcase our <strong><em>amazing products<\/em><\/strong> to customers.<\/p>\n<h3>NEON DECORATION<\/h3>\n<p>The walls were adorned with <em>London Street name signs<\/em>, real glass <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/neon-gas-originals.html\">neon signs<\/a>, stag heads<\/em>, and decorative mirrors. The centuries-old floor space looked like it was made to carry <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/aviator-furniture.html\">Aviator desks<\/a>, comic strip lacquered drawers, and original <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/drum.html\">oil drum furniture<\/a><\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>LABOUR OF LOVE<\/h3>\n<p>As we stood back and gazed around with pride, without realising Smithers of Stamford had become our third baby! My love of original paintwork and natural patina made this collection a dead cert.<\/p>\n<h3>DRUM DESIGNS<\/h3>\n<p>The <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/industrial-furniture.html\">Industrial furniture<\/a><\/strong><\/em> is definitely one of Smither&#8217;s favourite designs. We will focus on it again when the warmer weather arrives, as this range offers maximum versatility and makes great <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/outdoor-furniture\/sorrento-natural-rattan-garden-furniture-set.html\">alfresco furniture<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>QUIRKY GARDEN FURNITURE<\/h3>\n<p>Admittedly it wouldn&#8217;t look out of place on a sunny <strong><em>Jamaican beach<\/em><\/strong>, but we&#8217;re convinced the small drum art table will make a perfect<strong><em> outdoor planter<\/em><\/strong> when turned upside down and that the dining table and chairs will perk up any British patio this summer!<\/p>\n<h3>BEST GARDEN FURNITURE<\/h3>\n<p>The Drum range is individuality at its best.
