Retail aside, it\u2019s a very sociable day too, with locals meeting for coffee or lunch and a good ole chinwag. Us Stamfordians like to talk. Apart from me \u2013 I may be a Stamfordian, but I\u2019m a miserable git also. Well, sometimes anyway.<br \/>\nThe market was also one of the first reasons why I considered taking up a retail unit at the <strong>Stamford Corn Exchange<\/strong> Shopping Arcade. The Exchange is based on Broad Street where the market pitches up every week and very much feels like an extension of the eclectic stalls, without the cold winds and wet weather of course. Whilst the website will always be my main focus, I was keen to see how Smithers was received by the locals and large array of tourists that visit the town.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1290 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/stamford_lincolnshire.jpg\" alt=\"stamford_lincolnshire\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/stamford_lincolnshire.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/stamford_lincolnshire-175x175.jpg 175w, https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/stamford_lincolnshire-200x200.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><br \/>\nOur Gift Emporium at the Shopping Arcade has now been up and running for a few months, alongside our fellow Corn Exchange retailers. The response has been good and footfall is increasing all the time. Besides Smithers, there is a vast array of goods on offer \u2013 children\u2019s clothing and toys, ladies accessories, vinyl records and a massive display of wall cabinets showcasing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/gifts\">quirky gifts<\/a> and everything you can imagine from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/vintage-home-decor.html\">vintage homewares<\/a>, handmade blankets, aromatherapy products and even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/content\/bespoke-furniture\">bespoke pieces<\/a> made from forks.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/upcycled-retro-furniture.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1219 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/recycled-car-seat-sofa-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"recycled-car-seat-sofa\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/recycled-car-seat-sofa-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/recycled-car-seat-sofa-175x175.jpg 175w, https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/recycled-car-seat-sofa-200x200.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/recycled-car-seat-sofa.jpg 734w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>At the heart of the space is the Stage 2 Coffee House where you can indeed partake in coffee, lunch and a chinwag whilst you take a break from the shopping.<br \/>\nOf course, its not all about retail at the <strong>Stamford Corn Exchange<\/strong>, it is, after all a theatre first and foremost. You can expect to see the usual pantomines and plays there, but there is also a great variety of shows and performers on offer. The young and brilliant comedian <strong>Josh Widdecombe<\/strong> has recently toured here and visited the shopping arcade. Sadly I missed Josh, I could tell you why but it might put you off your lunch, but I did manage to catch a show with Suggs from Madness though, which was bloody brilliant, at Josh sorry I&#8217;ve not put a photo of you, I just thought Suggs is much better looking than you, no offence towards gingers honest.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1301 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/suggs-300x300.png\" alt=\"suggs\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/suggs-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/suggs-175x175.png 175w, https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/suggs-200x200.png 200w, https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/suggs.png 443w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><br \/>\nYou can\u2019t miss our unit on entering the Exchange \u2013 the red brick wallpapered walls provide the perfect backdrop to the treasure trove of goods that decorate the space. Iconic and local <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/gifts\/retro-road-wall-signs.html\"><strong>vintage street signs<\/strong><\/a>, and vibrant antelope heads strut their stuff, whilst twinkling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/signs\/carnival-wall-signs.html\">fairground\u00a0signs<\/a> and quirky lamps never fail to catch your eye. Bully the Patriotic Puppy Stool is a winner with the little ones and our selection of cool cushions are hard to ignore, and even harder not to indulge in. Trinkets, ornaments and home accessories like our Wall Hanging<strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/retro-ornaments\/climbing-men.html\">climbing man<\/a> wall\u00a0<\/strong><b>sculpture&#8217;s<\/b>\u00a0have proved hugely popular for presents, and if the Smither\u2019s team are not on hand to help, then there\u2019s always plenty of other staff members to assist in gift buying.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/retro-ornaments\/climbing-men.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1295 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/stamford_corn_exchange-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"stamford_corn_exchange\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/stamford_corn_exchange-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/stamford_corn_exchange-175x175.jpg 175w, https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/stamford_corn_exchange-200x200.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/stamford_corn_exchange.jpg 734w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nI have spent so much of my time sourcing furniture, it\u2019s made a refreshing change to concentrate on our gift options and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/vintage-home-decor.html\">home accessories<\/a> for the Emporium. Smither\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/cabinets-sideboards\/the-tardis.html\">Tardis<\/a> and Traditional Red Phonebox have taken pride of place at the Exchange, and there are small storage options and tables available also. A collection of our chairs have been popular, as have the many lighting options we offer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/cabinets-sideboards\/the-tardis.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1291 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/tardis-220x300.jpg\" alt=\"tardis\" width=\"220\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/tardis-220x300.jpg 220w, https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/tardis.jpg 532w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 220px) 100vw, 220px\" \/><\/a> My favourite pieces at the Shopping Arcade are the Children\u2019s Treasure Cabinet \u2013 a beautiful drawer storage unit that looks like a large collection of your children\u2019s favourite books. The Retro Copper Telephone \u2013 copper is still trending massively at the moment and this iconic shaped phone looks supremely cool on your desk or side table, and lastly our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithersofstamford.com\/lighting\/cinematic-light-box.html\">Cinematic Light Boxes<\/a> that allow you to display your very own personalised message. You don\u2019t know how close I\u2019ve come to writing something on there that I really shouldn\u2019t \u2013 I love a colonic, for example.
